| Summary | Zayin Theta-108 is an Aleerin (Star•Drive) medical doctor who was born with the atavistic programming for the Aleerin Warrior Credo, tempting him to reject his entire species' 300 year old commitment to pacifism after the Credans managed to exterminate–to the last survivor–the other sapient species in their solar system. Zayin found other ways to channel his aggressive impulses, and even used the Credan programming to make a better doctor, especially in trauma surgery. But when he was forced to go to war, a brutal total war, his commitment to peace and his faith in his own decency were shattered. Zayin has been trying to find a better way to reconcile his violent impulses–and the tools to use them–with his belief in saving lives instead of taking them. He's grateful for the opportunity to look for that better path in a galaxy far, far away. |

| Physical Description | Zayin is an Aleerin, a powerfully built humanoid species that grows cybernetic implants from its own living tissue. In a dark room, he can pass for either a Human or a Borg Drone. He wears his waist-length synthetic filament hair in a loose topknot, to make it easier to slip out of its binding–to take a patient's vitals, to emphasize his speech, or to writhe furiously when he's deep in concentration. Zayin has rough control over both his hair's movements, and its bioluminescence; it's prehensile, but can't lift anything much heavier than a cup of coffee. |
Family
| Other Family | Zayin is amiably estranged from his birth family, which is neither uncommon nor tragic for Aleerin. Zayin's chosen family was the crew of the Sticky Wicket which was destroyed with all hands–except his–before he was rescued by the Excalibur. |
Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Zayin is almost always gentle and patient, though his demeanor is a little too cold and mechanical to be properly described as "kindly". He's deeply empathetic, but struggles to emote in a way that non-Aleerin recognize, especially when focused on another sapient–keenly ironic and frustrating when Zayin is attempting to focus on another sapient's emotional state. He approaches his work with a tranquil intensity fitting to his robotic appearance and speech–and approaches his recreation the same way, with exaggerated cheerfulness that feels artificial and performative. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | + Top-flight xenobiologist and interspecies physician/surgeon with the equivalent of a medical tricorder embedded in his nervous system + Inhuman physical and emotional resilience, with skeletal reinforcement and regenerative nanites + Organic nanocomputer with digital-neural interface; adaptive cybernetic physiology + Subdermal armor and weaponry - Easily mistaken for Borg and triggers Federation prejudice against elective enhancement technology - Only two speeds: OFF / OH NO - Still catching up with this reality's history |
|
| Ambitions | * Export Federation and Borg technology to the Aleerin in his home reality * Help Aleerin immigrate to this and other utopian realities * Figure out why in the Seventeen Hells humanity is native to almost every single reality, and no other species is even remotely nearly ubiquitous, and why unrelated species appear to only exist in specific clusters across timelines * Integrate himself into DS13's living community |
|
| Hobbies & Interests | * Consuming the popular media, folklore, and classical literature of IDIC * People-watching and socializing with DS13's residents and guests * Rigorous PT training in the holodecks, alone and with partners, as a safe outlet for Credan programming * Vulcan philosophy and meditative practices |
| Languages | Zayin is semi-fluent in Federation Basic; by an unacceptably improbable and convenient coincidence, Federation Basic is closer to Galactic Standard than even their shared Anglish roots can account for, and Zayin picks up languages quickly. Zayin is actually a talented linguist, and doesn't trust the Universal Translator; he's cannibalized the translator implant the crew of the Excalibur gave him and grown one as a dedicated subprocessor in his nanocomputer, and is using it to learn as many of the local languages as possible. His top priorities are Federation Basic, Vulcan, and the Romulan dialects, but he's downloaded all of DS13's self-learning language programs into his internal storage and is processing them as quickly as his other activities allow. |
|
| Service Record | No Starfleet service record; Zayin was an irregular combatant on the Orion side of the Exeat War and graduated at the top of his class in medical school. |
