Character Information

Sex Male
Species Adeptus Astartes
Age 44
Summary Volsunga is a member of the Adeptus Astartes, a group of super-soldiers created to protect the Imperium of Man. The Imperium encompasses humanity and is constantly at war with alien species, evil entities from other dimensions, and traitors who oppose it. Despite this, his time aboard DS13 has at least allowed him to accept that this universe is different from his own, and therefore its rules and conventions may not apply.

Volsunga has been shaped by his environment, having little chance to form his own personality beyond the values upheld by his brothers: courage, independence, and honor. Like all his kind, he worships humanity’s immortal Emperor as a god. He knows little about culture and life outside the Space Wolves chapter he belongs to, but he has begun to learn from Federation computers. In this strange new universe, he feels the light of the Emperor no longer shines on him, but his faith remains strong.

He believes his convictions are strong, but they have never truly been tested without the support of his legion. He struggled violently against his detention by Starfleet at first, but he has become calm and accepting of his hosts, cooperating with their requests and communicating politely with them. He now provides tactical consultations that have proven to be of value, and has cordial relationships with a handful of crewmembers.

Physical Description Volsunga has faced extreme hardships since childhood but thrived despite them. At 14, he began his transformation into an Astartes, an eight-foot-tall super-soldier with genetic modifications and mechanical implants. He is of the Primaris strain of Astartes, hardier and larger than their firstborn brothers.

Despite his many battles, he has few permanent injuries. He lost his left foot, which has been replaced with a superior bionic implant.

Though his offensive psychic skills are undeveloped, he has strong defensive abilities, and those who seek to pry into his mind uninvited may not survive the attempt.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Volsunga is calm and even-tempered outside of battle. Though he rigidly follows Imperial doctrine, since some of his psychic conditioning was removed, he is capable of listening to reason and understanding others' perspectives, even if they may at first confuse and infuriate him.

Polite and disciplined, he can still be extremely violent with little provocation. Previously, he was always thinking about war and strategy, showing no fear, mercy, or restraint in battle except when ordered by his commander. He now finds solace in his work assessing tactical scenarios and providing reports, and has developed a curiosity about the new world around him. He has made extensive use of the holodeck since the station's XO introduced him to it.

Personal History Volsunga was born on a hive-world to a successful merchant and enjoyed a comfortable early life. Despite this, he loved participating in youth militia survival games and tactical endeavours in the slums, encouraged by his parents who hoped he would join the Imperial Guard.

Tragedy struck when his father's merchant vessel was raided by Drukhari pirates and left adrift in the Fenris system. Volsunga was the only survivor and, against all odds, managed to survive in the wilderness with limited resources. Eventually, he was accepted into one of the planet's semi-feral tribes.

As he grew, Volsunga became a formidable warrior within the tribe. When he came of age, the tribe presented him to an Imperial recruiter.

After enduring years of brutal trials and extensive physical alterations, he was transformed into a Space Wolf, a superhuman warrior among the ranks of the Astartes.

He has no knowledge of when or how it happened, but he was a seasoned warrior when he became trapped in a small quantum storage device, several of which have turned up on DS13.

Since emerging from a storage device, Volsunga has been the involuntary guest of Deep Space 13. After a period of good behaviour, he was released from detention into private quarters. Some of his psychoconditioning has come undone, and he entertains the idea that the Federation is not an enemy, despite its many heresies. He has also started giving his tactical analyses of modern and historic conflicts, which are proving insightful and thorough.
