Mission:
The Serpent's Tooth [3]
Location: Hera's Throneroom - Mothership, Docked at DS13
Timeline: 1500 Hours - MD07 (After 'When they see this King')
Polyphron, Mars and Hekate had all been summoned by their Queen. Once all three had arrived, Hera dismissed all the Jaffa and other attendants from their presence.
Her eyes glowed at her Lieutenants, who returned the gesture with their eyes averted, visible in the polished imitation-stone floor. "We must act. These Federation people are quite trusting. It should not be difficult to learn their secrets. Go aboard the station under the pretence of co-operation. Learn what you can that they might have of value. The old man has his city of the horizon, it is time we began the search for our new Olympus."
Polyphron took a knee before her mistress. She had never held the high office of the other two, even if they were currently diminished. She waited for them to speak first.
Mars couldn't help but feel the nagging itch that their current plans were not going to end well, for them. Especially against this Federation, they had technology that rivalled the Ancients or perhaps even greater.
He was on one knee in front of his Queen, he was about to warn about upsetting their saviours but knew it would be pointless. "It will be done, my Queen." Mars said in his echoed voice but waited to be dismissed.
Hekate stood, a reflection of her apparent age and her favored status to her queen. "Polyphron has worked with their engineers. We can use this familiarity to our advantage." Her sigil, a crescent moon, was in the centre of her armour's chestpiece, and it seemed to catch the light oddly.
"And they are relaxed now that we have proven trustworthy. Do we intend to steal knowledge from them, my Queen?" Mars inquired, with a slight glance up.
"Find whatever will be of value and can be taken with us. I have learned much from the computer systems they have allowed us access to. Their technology is advanced, but I have not seen anything commonplace that exceeds the possibilities we are familiar with." Hera responded, before pausing. "Their proximity to this door of the horizon cannot be an accident. No doubt they have encountered much from other universes. I expect there will be much they do not tell the public about, despite their presentation as diplomats, they are one of, if not the most formidable military force in this galaxy."
"It may not be an accident, but far from their only major operation." Mars commented, he nodded. "I doubt they would tell us how their tech works."
Hera looked at Polyphron. "Can you overtake their systems? We have neither the numbers nor arms to survive long any combat where we do not control the battlefield. To even pass weapons through their security will be a trick we cannot repeat."
"I am confident I can. Their systems are advanced, but the principles suggest monodimensional processing without subspace buffers or tachyonic predictive modelling. Replicator algorithms should be sufficient to program any desired outcome. I can promise two hours, maybe three. They are quite intelligent, for tau'ri who did not have ancient and asgard wisdom gifted to them." Polyphron said with an obvious distaste for humanity.
Mars frowned as he glanced over at the engineer. "If you hadn't noticed Polyphron, they aren't all tau'ri. None of them should be underestimated, we must learn more."
"Yet their history shows that most interbreed. It seems irrationally simple for them to misceginate across worlds. There are at least half a dozen beings aboard with every grandparent a different species. There are many strange combinations of ability here. Many unique and valuable potential hosts. What I read of these Klingons, they could bring down an Unas barehanded. What say you, Mars, are you ready to face the neuroparalytic strike of a Vulcan, or the telepathy of a Betazoid? An errant thought in range of one could bring you all undone." Hera asked Mars, wondering how her commander would assess such a field assignment.
"Federation won't kill us, the Klingons and Romulans might, but I get the feeling they won't for it will antagonise the Federation." Mars began, "I consider myself a disciplined mind, and I'm interested to see if I could withstand such a strike." He said as he imagined what it might feel like.
"Still. Be cautious. If you are discovered before the time is right, we will deny any knowledge of your actions. Tell nobody but those you can currently see of what you do. Not Thallistra, or even my son." Hera said cautiously, looking between the three of them. "Now, go." She instructed.
Mars stood and left the room, he had much to plan. He wondered if he should send some of his elite Jaffa to shadow some of the Federation officers to learn of key locations, habits of those who frequent those locations and so on.
Hekate also left a slower pace. She needed to check her stores, there were a few compounds she knew would be useful.
Polyphron bowed to her mistress and made her way, grasping the reflective pendant she wore around her neck.
